Video Game Reviews Fatal Fury 3 Road to the Final Victory Arcade

Over the years, SNK has remained a successful and formidable rival against Capcom in the world of 2D fighting games. One of SNK’s most popular fighting game series happens to be “Fatal Fury.” In 1995, SNK would develop and publish “Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory.” So far, the game is rather interesting for the most part. It would be ported to SNK’s Neo Geo arcade consoles. It would then get ported to the Neo Geo CD, Sega Saturn, Windows 95, and Playstation 2.

A lot of old elements are retained in the game. However, new elements have been added into the game as well.

Storyline: A

Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory has an interesting storyline from what I have seen. It revolves around a tournament as a means to find something called the Jin scrolls. The Jin scrolls are supposed to grant the wielder a lot of power. Some people seek the scrolls for that reason. Other people join the fray to stop these people from getting that necessary power.

Characters: A+

Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory has an interesting cast of characters. A few regular characters return. The other characters are completely new. Returning characters are: Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, Mai Shiranui, and Geese Howard.

New characters are: Sokaku Mochizuki, Bob Wilson, Hon-Fu, Blue Mary, Ryuji Yamazaki, Chonrei Jin, and Chonshu Jins. Yamazaki and the Jins are the bosses of the game.

Graphics: B-

The graphics are definitely an improvement. Keep in mind that the game was released in 1995. Video game technology was still considered to be extremely primitive. However, the character sprites and background stages seemed to be much sharper for the most part. One could call this an improvement from the other games in which the game sprites were a tad bit bulky. This is a sign that future Fatal Fury games ended up improving over time.

Game Play: A

If you know how to play Street Fighter II or any of the Fatal Fury games, you should be able to play this game. You have your set of special and super moves. However, there are some additions. One addition is that the stages have been made into a three plane format. You have the Air Guard which allows you to block mid-air attacks. You have Combination Arts. Now, you have a “Hidden Ability” that can be activated for by doing the command for the super move. However, it is a steep chance that you can activate the Hidden Ability. This can only be used once in a round. There is a grading system that is used as well. Depending on what grade you get, it will affect who you fight at the end. Ultimately, it affects the game ending.

Overall: A

Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory is definitely one game you may like. If you enjoy fighting games, this is something to check out. If you have an arcade emulator, you can always download a copy of the game ROM.
